PRENATAL HOME VISITING

  • The Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program provides support for pregnant women and their families through home visiting.  This program is in addition to prenatal care received from family physicians, midwives or obstetricians. Also, in our community, the North Bay General Hospital provides a prenatal assessment to all women at 28 weeks gestation.

  • Through the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program pregnant mothers receive home visits from a Public Health Nurse and a trained home visitor.

  • Information about good nutrition during pregnancy is available  Nutrition During Pregnancy

  • Pregnant moms will be helped to access needed nutritional supplements (i.e. milk coupons, prenatal vitamins)

  • Families will be linked to other prenatal services in the community as appropriate e.g.:

    • Prenatal Classes

    • Community Action Program for Children (CAPC)

    • Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program

    • Indian Friendship Centre - Prenatal Nutrition Program  www.nbifc.org

    "La Leche League" - www.lalecheleague.org.

    • The program is voluntary and the goals are decided by the pregnant mother in discussion with the Public Health Nurse/home visitor.

THE FAMILY HOME VISITING PROGRAM

This is a free program for families of preschool children. Families receive home visits from a Public Health Nurse and a Family Home Visitor. Our goal is to help children have the best start in life and build parents' confidence.

A Family Home Visitor will visit you in your home and help you work through the joys and struggles of raising a child.

A Home Visitor is trained to provide information about:

  • Baby and child care
  • The development of a positive relationship with your child
  • Child growth and development
  • Child discipline
  • Child safety
  • Joys and stresses of parenting
  • Community support groups

You can begin or end this service at anytime.
