Through the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program provides support for pregnant women and their families through home visiting.
- This program is in addition to prenatal care received from family physicians, midwives or obstetricians.
- The North Bay District Hospital provides a prenatal assessment to all women at 28 weeks gestation.
- In Burk’s Falls, your doctor will provide a prenatal assessment, and will then refer you to the Health Unit if you need a prenatal home visit.
- West Parry Sound Health Centre,
- Through the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children Program pregnant mothers receive home visits from a Public Health Nurse and a trained Family Home Visitor.
- Pregnant moms are helped to access needed nutritional supplements (i.e. milk coupons, prenatal vitamins).
- The program is voluntary and the goals are decided by the pregnant mother in discussion with the Public Health Nurse/home visitor.
- Families will be linked to other prenatal services in the community as appropriate e.g.:
THE FAMILY HOME VISITING PROGRAM
- This is a free program for families of preschool children.
- Families receive home visits from a Public Health Nurse and a Family Home Visitor.
- Our goal is to help children have the best start in life and build parents' confidence.
- A Family Home Visitor will visit you in your home and help you work through the joys and struggles of raising a child.
A Family Home Visitor is trained to provide information about: 
- Baby and child care
- The development of a positive relationship with your child
- Child growth and development
- Child discipline
- Child safety
- Joys and stresses of parenting
- Community support groups
